Anybody Can Race
There are two types of drag racing – heads up and bracket racing. Heads up racing is two cars going down the track at the same time. The car with the shortest elapsed time(ET) from the start line to the finish line wins. Bracket racing is like heads up racing but with a handicap. Cars run down the track to determine how long it takes to get to the finish line. This is known as the “dial-in”. At race time, the dial-ins of the two cars are compared. If one car has a 10 second dial-in and the other has a 7 second dial-in, the 10 second car will get a 3 second head start. If their reaction times at the starting line are equal, the cars should finish the race at about the same time. If you run under your dial-in its called breakout and you’re disqualified for going too fast. Bracket racing levels the playing field so any car can race. Your everyday going-to-work car can compete against any hot rod. It’s your reaction time at the start that counts.
